Changing Mealtimes

Mealtimes – like many other aspects of our modern lives – are changing. Finding say that 42% of white and Hispanic kids sometimes skip breakfast, as do 59% of black children. But breakfast isn’t the only meal that kids are missing. 22-to-38% of kids said they sometimes don’t eat dinner.

But they haven’t forgotten how to snack. The survey participants said they often eat snacks to replace the meals they miss. Most kids snack after school, and about one-quarter said they snack regularly in the evening.

According to an official at the organization, parents can use these snack habits as a way to improve their kids’ nutrition. Keeping healthy snacks on hand can help replace those missed meals … while ensuring that kids’ diets give them the nutrients they need.
