But depending on what you add to it, that cup of joe can easily go from zero calories to the hundreds—even a third of your daily allotment when dieting. Don’t give up the coffee… just rethink your café drink with these suggestions.
- The easiest change is the cup size. Switch from a large to medium and you cut out a quarter of the calories. Downsize to small and you’ve cut the calories in half.
- The savings is dramatic if you replace cream and sugar with skim milk and non-calorie
sweetener—you can cut 200 calories and still enjoy a large. - Ask for a shot of sugar-free syrup to savor hazelnut or almond flavor for zero calories.
- Have a cappuccino or latte “with no-fat foam” to get skim milk’s calcium and a rich taste
without the fat of cream. - Love flavored frappes? Shave off up to 100 calories by skipping the whipped cream topper. Order a small fat-free blend to cut out another 200 calories.
Just keep in mind that if you have more than one fancy coffee drink a day, even
downsizing won’t be enough to keep the calories from eating into your food allowance.
