Meditation has been used by cultures around the world for thousands of years. Today, many people meditate to relax and de-stress, but there are so many styles that you may not know how to get started. Here are three easy meditation techniques.

The first technique involves simply sitting or lying down and letting your mind wander–don’t try to control it. Watch where your mind goes and what it thinks about as you let it wander at will. Do this for 3 to 5 minutes.

Another easy technique is to focus on your breathing. Sit in a comfortable position, close your eyes, and breathe naturally. Notice how different parts of your body move as you breathe in and out.

A third approach is to focus on a single object, like a candle, or saying a word or phrase over and over. Any time you feel your mind wandering, focus it back on the object of your attention.
