How Smart Appliances Can Make Life Easier

by Jennifer Thayer

There’s nothing moms need more of these days than extra time with their loved ones. However, between caring for their families, doing household chores, running errands and chauffeuring the kids to all their activities, many mothers do not have much time left.

A fun way to cut back and add a little time to your day and money in your wallet would be to start using some of the trendier smart home appliances. What mom wouldn’t love that? Here are some of the more popular smart home appliances that use smart sensor technology that are getting some pretty rave reviews.

Range

Cut down on the time it takes to cook a meal with a new smart range. Some models allow users to download an app to their phone or tablet and send the recipe straight to the range, which automatically sets cooking time and temperature. This same app also lets users monitor their food’s cooking progress. Smart ranges also help cut back cooking times by doing away with preheating and using infrared cooking. This is great for those cooks who prepare multiple meals for the family, holidays or parties.

Microwave

Smart combination microwaves help users cook food perfectly each time and eliminate both overcooked and undercooked meals. Smart sensor technology reads a food’s surface temperature to determine cooking time. This will save time when you need thaw meat or cook an entire meal from scratch.

Refrigerator

A refrigerator is nothing more than a place to keep food fresh and cold, right? Wrong. Many of today’s smart refrigerators come with a touch screen that helps you keep track of what’s inside and allows you to find recipes online and coupons to match that inventory. Making a grocery list has never been easier.

The touch screen also allows you email that list to yourself or you one of the many social media apps available. While they aren’t cheap, you savings in the long run come from not wasting as much food since keeping track of it all is that much simpler. You can pair some devices with the touch screen allowing you to make phone calls without even picking up your phone.

Washer/Dryer

Smart home washers and dryers allow users to connect to their appliances when they are out and about. You can activate options through a special app including tracking how much energy your washer/dryer is using. If you start a load when you aren’t home, you can sign up to receive notifications on its progress. Smart home washers and dryers can also keep track of maintenance and repairs.

The bottom line is that many smart appliances are expensive. However, the real savings will show after a period of time. Also, because so many smart appliances are energy efficient, don’t forget to check into any rebates that are available from one of your utility companies or local government agency.
