Kids and Pets: Positive Play

Today we’re discussing kids and pets. We’re here with Nicole Forsyth from RedRover, an animal welfare organization and Alex Lu, creator of the new board game Dogs BOND. They’ve partnered together to give kids an opportunity to learn about animals. By incorporating play-based learning, kids can learn empathy for both animals and people.

RedRover is an organization designed to help when people and animals are in crisis. They do this through a variety of programs, working with schools and helping parents with resources to help their kids understand animals better. Their RedRover’s Readers education program and their Kind News Magazine program teaches kids about animals, empathy and uses play-based learning.

Dogs BOND is a new board game with a positive message. It helps families become better connected with a rescue dog’s journey with play, whimsy, and hope – while empowering real conversations about adoptions. Through this game, family members can connect to each other, without screens, while learning about the lives of animals When you order Dogs BOND game, you get a free copy of Kind News Magazine as a sample.

The power of play helps kids learn empathy towards animals. Pets love us unconditionally and listen without judgment. They’re just there. Kids get really open when they’re talking about animal emotions and applying it to their own relationships. Even kids who don’t have pets, want to learn about them. And in the setting of a game like Dogs BOND, or with a magazine like Kind News Magazine, kids can explore feelings of empathy together.
