People who had a better relationship with their mother during childhood had less daily psychological distress. People with poorer relationships with their mother or father, however, reported more stressors during the day, such as arguments, work deadlines, and traffic jams.

Parents who are caring and involved may give children the tools they need to manage relationships with other people during adulthood.
