Concussion Differences in Boys and Girls
Experts have recently been giving a lot of attention to concussions in professional athletes to children. Symptoms of concussions may look different in boys and girls.
Among high school athletes, concussions may look different for the boys team and the girls team. Researchers found that the boys had more cognitive symptoms, or issues affecting their thinking. For example, they were more likely to have amnesia, confusion, and disorientation. Girls, however, had more drowsiness and sensitivity to noise. However, the boys and girls needed a similar amount of time for their symptoms to go away or before they could return to play. This suggests that their injuries were about equally severe, according to the researchers.
